How many times I hear people say: my profession doesn’t pay, I’m going to find something more profitable to do in life.
Or others who are still in the beginning of their careers trying to find something that will give them money to work for the rest of their lives.
In fact, what I have to say is a simple thing: money is the consequence of a job well done. And it can never be the reason for your life.
I’ll explain why. And to do that I’ll start by asking you a question.
What do you think a happy life would be like?
Try to imagine a life that you believe is extremely happy. Think about it from the moment you wake up until the time you go to bed.
Have you thought about it? Now tell me, did you imagine your day spent just spending money without thinking about tomorrow?
Or did you imagine yourself in the profession of your dreams, with a great team, in a company that recognises your efforts?
If you look closely you will come to the conclusion that money is not the reason for happiness. Of course it’s essential to avoid the headaches that bring unhappiness.
But if you pursue a profession thinking only about financial remuneration, besides not having a happy life, you will have a great chance of not making any money.
You will be successful doing what you love
The only way you can be successful in your career is doing exactly what you love. That which brings a twinkle in your eye.
There is no profession that does not make money. There are rich doctors, there are average doctors. There are rich engineers, poor engineers.
There are rich lawyers, poor lawyers. And here I could spend hours talking about cases of successful professionals and others not so successful.
The truth is that what differentiates one from the other is the love he/she puts into his/her profession. Understand that most of your day is spent working.
So, if you don’t like what you do, you will be an average professional, and consequently you will not stand out and make money.
Do not choose a profession based only on the salary
That is why I say with all the conviction in the world: do not choose a profession only thinking about the remuneration it can bring you.
When choosing your profession, think about what you would like to do for the rest of your days. Choose something that will give you great pleasure in life.
Imagine that career in which you wake up early with the will to work, full of ideas, initiatives, that makes the blood pulsate in your vein.
You can be sure that even if this profession is not a highlight in the market, you will be. After all, when we love what we do, we will be the best at it.
And when we are the best, the best opportunities will open before us. So, if your profession doesn’t make money, forget about it and focus on the love you have for it. Money is only a consequence. And one day or another, it will come.
