What you need to know before going to Ireland

-

Ireland is a wonderful destination with its spectacular scenery, rich culture and welcoming people. I confess that when I arrived here, I never imagined such hospitality.

But I know that if I had more information about the country, it would also help me better in adapting. That’s why I decided to write this article, to talk a little about some points about Ireland that you need to know before coming here.

Weather and driving

Ireland has a somewhat changeable climate, which can change several times during the day. It is therefore essential that you bring suitable clothing for all weather conditions.

Regardless of the season, it is advisable to bring an umbrella or a raincoat, as well as warm clothes. This will help deal with the weather.

As for driving, people drive on the left side of the road here, which can be strange for visitors from countries that drive on the right. Also, many country roads are narrow and winding, requiring extra caution when driving.

Currency and hospitality

The currency of the Republic of Ireland is the euro. However, if you plan on visiting Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom, you will need British pounds. Most places accept credit cards, but it’s good to have some cash for emergencies.

The good news is that the Irish are known for their warm hospitality and sense of humour. But it is important to respect local culture and traditions.

One point worth emphasizing is that music is an essential part of Irish culture, and you can tell that as soon as you arrive here.

Historical heritage and gastronomy

Another point that is important to emphasize is the historical heritage of Ireland. The country has a rich history, with ancient Celtic buildings and beautiful medieval castles.

Also, the natural beauty here is breathtaking, with many dramatic cliffs, verdant mountains and rocky coastlines. Some places that everyone who is here needs to visit are the Cliffs of Moher and the Ring of Kerry.

And what about the food here? This is a factor that really attracts many tourists. After all, Irish cuisine goes far beyond the famous lamb stew.

There are traditional dishes such as “black and white pudding” (black and white chorizo) or sea delights, such as smoked salmon, which are delicious. And, of course, I can’t leave the traditional Guinness beer out of the list!

Security and health

As far as safety goes, what I can say is that Ireland is generally a safe country, but as with any place, it’s important to take basic safety precautions.

Health is very good here. The country has an excellent healthcare system, but almost nothing is public. Therefore, it is recommended to have travel health insurance to cover any emergencies.

Immigration regulations

Finally, before you travel, check your visa requirements. Citizens of the European Union have the right to enter and stay in Ireland without a visa, but Brazilians need some type of visa, the most common being the Stamp 2.

With these aspects in mind, you will be well prepared to make the most of your visit to this beautiful Celtic country. And I can guarantee you will fall in love with it.
