There are two dreams that are part of Brazilians’ lives: one is to have your own company, and the other is to work in a multinational company.
When we are still at the beginning of our career we are usually torn between which of these two paths to follow. One represents a solid career with the possibility of growth.
The other is the dream of freedom to work for ourselves and to have the opportunity to climb progressively to fulfil all our dreams.
But is the path all roses in both cases?
The truth is that both the path in a multinational and having your own company is full of thorns. It is not easy, and the challenges are tremendous.
In entrepreneurship you have to deal with the ups and downs of the market, unforeseen situations, sudden changes and various other obstacles.
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, I had a school with thousands of students, as I have until today. And that was a real blow to me.
You have to reinvent yourself, think of new perspectives, new paths if you want to stay alive in the market. It is not easy. It is challenging. This is the path of entrepreneurship.
And the same happens when you work in a multinational. It is not an easy path. You have to deal with co-workers who are not always easy, with bosses who often do not give you the opportunity to grow, and so on.
Overcoming challenges is rewarding
However, in both cases, despite the tremendous challenges, overcoming them is really rewarding.
Despite the thorns, each obstacle that is overcome, each stone that is removed from the path is a real victory that encourages us to move forward.
Therefore, there is no one path that is better than the other, nor an easier one with less tortuous paths. Both paths are full of challenges.
The choice between one and the other depends a lot on your profile and on what you expect for your life. Entrepreneurship is more suitable for those who want freedom, and who also like to innovate constantly.
Working in a multinational company, on the other hand, requires more patience, discipline and the will to live an experience outside Brazil.
A bit of each experience can be good
For those who have doubts about following one path or the other, it may be advisable to have a little experience in each one. In other words, working for a while in a multinational company, gaining experience and then venturing into entrepreneurship.
Anyway, both experiences are very interesting for your life, and you can be sure that you’ll learn a lot from each one. Tell us, what is your choice?
