When I landed in Ireland, almost 15 years ago, what immediately captured me was the warm welcome of the Irish and the verdant landscape that stretched as far as the eye could see. There I had the distinct impression that I had arrived to stay.
The “Emerald Island” welcomed me with its friendly atmosphere and breathtaking landscapes. First impressions of Dublin, with its lively streets and historic architecture, promised an enchanting adventure.
Understanding the Irish lifestyle
In the early years, adaptation was a fascinating challenge. The cuisine, with its robust dishes like “Irish Stew”, and cultural celebrations, such as the famous St. Patrick’s Day, were unlike anything I had experienced.
I quickly learned that the Irish value good conversation and have a deep appreciation for their music and traditions. Ceol sessions in local pubs, where musicians gather to play, became events I looked forward to.
Sailing in foreign waters
Living in a foreign country inevitably brought challenges. The weather, often cloudy and rainy, was a marked contrast to Brazil. English was sung with an accent and slang that took me a while to fully understand.
However, these obstacles ended up becoming opportunities in disguise, where I learned resilience and the art of adapting and embracing new things.
Forming ties abroad
Over the years, the friendships I have formed here have become an essential pillar of my experience. Ireland is a mosaic of people from all parts of the world.
Connecting with people from different cultures and backgrounds has enriched my perspective on life immensely. I learned that although our backgrounds may be different, the search for understanding and connection is universal.
Growth and opportunities
In the professional sphere, it was where I grew the most, as Ireland proved to be a fertile ground for growth and learning.
The work environment, which encourages innovation and values a collaborative approach, allowed me to expand my horizons and gain valuable international experience. In fact, over time I became an entrepreneur in the country.
It was here that I learned that passion and commitment can open doors, and that there is always room for innovative contributions.
Rediscovering green
The Irish landscape is a chapter in itself. The dramatic Cliffs of Moher, endless meadows and wild Atlantic coastline instilled in me a new appreciation for nature.
I learned that there is an inherent peace in getting lost (metaphorically) on a trail or sitting on the edge of a cliff, listening to the roar of the ocean below.
Home is where the heart finds peace
Looking back over these almost 15 years, I see that Ireland taught me much more than I could have imagined. I learned about resilience, friendship, and the beauty of immersing yourself in a new culture.
The Emerald Isle, with its gray skies, green fields and warm hearts, became my home. In fact, I discovered that home is not necessarily a place, but where your heart finds peace and acceptance.
Ireland accepted me, shaped me and, most of all, taught me that there is always beauty in exploring the unknown.
