Nowadays, what I see most on the internet are people trying to become influencers. I find this valid and even interesting.
After all, the internet has opened space for people from various cultures and backgrounds to have a voice, positively influencing other people.
However, what I see is that there are many people who want to influence, but don’t have the true purpose of the profession in their blood: that of helping.
Understand that you will only be a good digital influencer if your focus is not to only want to have followers, but to help people.
The purpose of an influencer
When I ask someone who wants to become an influencer what their purpose is on the internet, most of them don’t even know how to answer that question.
So what I have to say is: what do you want to influence someone for? What good do you have to offer these people who are going to follow you?
I think the influencer profession is fantastic, but without a purpose behind it it becomes empty. Which reminds me of an old song that says: there are too many stars for too few constellations.
Have a purpose to help people
So, what I have to say is that you need to have in your purpose as an influencer the will to help other people. The desire to know that your content is being useful.
For example, if you’re a great writer, you can teach other people who love writing to pursue a career in it by teaching them techniques and methods.
If you’re a great designer, you can teach that to those who follow you. When your purpose is put into play, then you do have influence.
Do you know why? Because people are not looking for someone they think is cool to follow. What they want is someone to reach out to them.
Someone who shows them the way, who has already walked the same path they want to walk and shows them their mistakes and successes.
Don’t influence, help
Finally, when you decide to become a social media authority, focus solely on helping and not influencing.
When you aim to help in an uncompromising way, not wanting anything in return, but being happy for the simple act of helping, at that point you are a true influencer.
After all, that’s when you are changing someone’s life. It is at that moment that without you seeing it, that person takes you as an example and begins to follow in your footsteps.
You stop being just an empty star to fill those who follow you with content. So, if you want to influence, above all you need to help.
