Last Wednesday (05) Meta launched its newest app: Threads, which hit the market to compete directly with Twitter. And in a short time it was already successful.
In just seven hours after its launch, the network already had 10 million users worldwide. Most of these people are Twitter fans, and were frustrated with Elon Musk’s management that began in October 2022.
Faced with such success, many people came to ask me if I had heard of the network, and if it was necessary to have an Instagram account to use it. So I decided to write this article to explain a little more.
What is Threads?
Threads is an app that was launched last Wednesday (05), created by Meta, which is the same company responsible for WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook.
According to the company itself, Threads is an Instagram text conversation app, which is why it has affectionately earned the nickname of Tuinsta from its enthusiasts.
Therefore, within the network you can basically do everything you already do on Twitter: publish, share conversations, respond to text, photo and video posts, among other functions that you are already used to.
Thus, I already anticipate that there is nothing very new in the social network, just an attempt to stand up to Twitter, after the network started to lose followers.
It is worth mentioning that to use the social network you must already have an Instagram profile. The app is available for both Android and iOS.
What are Threads’ privacy features?
Anyone over 18 who already has an Instagram account can open a Thread account. And from there, you can control who can mention you or reply to your comments.
It is also possible to add hidden words to filter responses that have some specific terms, as is already done on Instagram.
And among the interaction alternatives, you can unfollow a user, block, restrict, or report a profile by clicking on the three dots at the top right of the screen.
Once you’ve downloaded the app on your smartphone, you need to associate it with your Instagram account, and then an interface very similar to Twitter appears.
That is, the timeline occupies almost the entire screen and the buttons are at the bottom to return to the home page, perform a new search, create a post, check notifications, etc.
I did some tests and saw that the limit for writing is up to 500 characters. Therefore, it is aimed at very short texts of opinion.
Should the Thread score?
In my opinion, I believe that Thread has arrived to score. Because dissatisfaction with Twitter grew a lot after Elon Musk took over the company’s management.
After all, he started to demand a verification seal from all users, fired employees responsible for the infrastructure, started to moderate the press, in short, he made a set of processes that displeased many people.
On the other hand, some experts point out that the Thread asks for access to some personal, financial information, which may also inhibit some users.
However, in spite of that, in view of such a great adhesion in such a short time and the enormous potential that Meta has, I believe that Thread will really succeed. And have you already made your account on the newest social network?
