There’s an immediate satisfaction in talking about plans. Sharing ideas, dividing goals, explaining what you intend to do. It gives a feeling of advancement, of movement, of progress.
But talking about plans doesn’t change reality at all.
For a long time, I confused shared intention with real action. The conversation seemed productive, the planning seemed solid, the enthusiasm was genuine. Yet, the result remained the same.
That’s when I understood that plans impress, but it’s execution that transforms.
There’s even a comfort in talking too much about what you intend to do.
Because while the plan is in the realm of discourse, it hasn’t yet been tested. It hasn’t been exposed to error, criticism, or frustration. In discourse, everything is still perfect.
But it’s execution that quickly breaks that perfection.
When you execute, unforeseen events arise. Adjustments need to be made. Reality responds differently than expected. And it is precisely in this contact with the real world that growth happens.
Talking less about plans also changes the relationship with expectation. When you share less, you reduce the need for external validation. You stop seeming committed and start actually being committed.
There’s a silent gain in this: more energy to work and less energy to explain.
Another important point is that execution generates clarity. One day of execution teaches more than weeks of planning. Practice reveals flaws, opportunities, and paths that planning alone cannot show.
The market doesn’t reward those with good intentions. It rewards those who deliver real value. And value only appears when something moves from the realm of ideas to the realm of action.
This doesn’t mean abandoning planning. It means balancing. Planning enough to start and executing enough to learn.
In the end, plans are important, but only until they cease to be mere talk and become routine.
Because, in the real world, those who talk a lot about what they’re going to do tend to delay what needs to be done.
And those who execute more need to explain less.
