In recent years the number of Brazilians living in Ireland has increased significantly. According to the 2022 Census, there are 39.5 thousand Brazilians residing in the country, which corresponds to 4% of the population.
To give you an idea, Brazil is ahead of Spain, Italy and Latvia. When compared to the 2016 Census it is possible to see a 150% increase in the number of Brazilians living here.
With the increase in immigration there was a need to understand the profile of the Brazilian community in Ireland, and for this reason, the Brazilian Embassy in Dublin, in partnership with unleashe, created the Brazilian Community Mapping Survey.
What is the Brazilian Community Mapping Survey?
This is an initiative of the Brazilian embassy in Dublin that was developed by unleashe, and aims to understand the profile of the Brazilian community that currently lives on the Emerald Island, as well as its integration in the country and the maintenance of ties with Brazil.
The results will support the embassy’s work in the coming years, and will serve as a basis and foundation, with data and information to develop initiatives aimed at this audience.
With the data in hand, a report with the research results will be released in November, which will be published and made available to the entire Brazilian community.
What is the objective of the research?
As I anticipated, the research aims to detail the context and profile of the Brazilian community that currently lives in Ireland, and it is quite numerous.
Furthermore, the idea is to understand the degree of maintenance of ties with Brazil: if you intend to return to the country, if you maintain relationships with relatives, if you intend to take someone else to Ireland, etc.
All of this will give an understanding of the level of integration with the Emerald Island, and thus it may be possible to develop initiatives that support Brazilians in different areas of activity.
Who can participate in the research?
Any Brazilian over 18 years of age and residing in Ireland can participate in the research. This includes exchange students, permanent residents, Brazilians with dual citizenship, etc.
It’s worth mentioning that participation is anonymous, so you don’t need to identify yourself if you don’t want to. But it is crucial to hear their voice, their story and build an authentic and detailed portrait of the Brazilian community in Ireland.
Therefore, the participation of all Brazilians is very important, as the larger the research sample, the better the portrait of the community will be, and the more effective the actions developed will be.
To participate, it’s very easy, you just need to access: rebrand.ly/mapeamento2023, and then you will be directed to the survey forms. Let’s each of us do our part. This will help everyone who lives and loves the Emerald Island and Brazil.
