Today, I want to share with you something that I have noticed throughout my professional journey and that has been an essential pillar in maintaining my emotional balance: practicing sports.
The relationship between sport and emotional balance in the workplace is closer than you might imagine and I want to explain why. Especially because everyone who follows me has already noticed my dedication to Jiu Jitsu.
Efficient way to deal with stress
To begin with, sport is one of the most effective ways I know of dealing with stress. I’m sure we’ve all had days when the demands of work seem insurmountable.
At these times, sport works as an escape valve. It helps me to release accumulated tensions and go back to work the next day with a calmer mind and a more energetic body.
In addition, sports practice stimulates the production of endorphins, the so-called happiness hormones. And they are essential to bring the feeling of well-being.
Therefore, after an exercise session, this feeling is undeniable and, without a doubt, directly influences my willingness and motivation to face daily tasks. Sport also helps cultivate resilience, a vital skill in the corporate world.
Easier to face challenges
Conquering a new personal brand, overcoming a difficult struggle, learning a new sport: all these situations taught me to face challenges with determination and patience, knowing that results do not always come in the time we expect, but in the time we need.
Maintaining an exercise routine gave me more focus and concentration, essential characteristics for any professional. Sport requires discipline, the commitment to maintain regularity, regardless of adversity.
That same discipline and commitment are needed in the work environment, especially when we have deadlines to meet and goals to achieve.
Also, sport helped me understand the importance of teamwork. In team sports, each member plays a crucial role in the group’s success.
Likewise, at work, each of us has a specific role and we are all important to the success of the company.
Healthier relationship with failure
Finally, playing sports helped me develop a healthier relationship with failure. In sport, as in life, we don’t always win. I learned that every defeat is an opportunity to learn and improve.
Likewise, at work, we can’t always achieve our goals or complete our tasks perfectly. However, every failure is a chance to grow and improve.
So if you’re looking for a way to balance your emotions at work, I suggest you consider playing sports.
Whether it’s a morning run, a yoga class, a soccer game with friends or Jiu Jitsu, which is the activity I love to do the most. The important thing is to move the body and mind.
You’ll notice how it relieves stress, increases focus and resilience, improves teamwork, and teaches you how to handle failures better.
In short, sport can be a great ally for maintaining your emotional balance at work. I can vouch for it from experience.
