Home office work has grown substantially in recent years, especially after the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic that imposed social isolation.
Since then, many people have started to work exclusively indoors. Some see the new format as freedom, others as loneliness.
Recently I found myself reflecting on this. At SEDA we have collaborators working in both formats, and we give freedom to anyone who wants to work in either of them.
After all, while some prefer to work at home, others believe that it is better to work within the company. Is that you?
Freedom or solitude
It’s interesting to think about it. Even a philosophical question. I see that each case is different and that’s why I defend free will.
Those who live alone, without family, can interpret the home office as loneliness. After all, all human beings have the need for socialization.
We need to talk to other people in person. As much as meetings are held online, it still carries that loneliness thing.
Not to mention that working within a company there is always that happy hour at the end of the job in which the team strengthens their relationship.
On the other hand, you have to commute to work, which requires waking up earlier and often arriving home later.
Freedom to work any time of the day
For those who find working from home a freedom, the best argument is that you can make your own hours and work in your most productive hours.
Also, for those with families, this is an excellent opportunity to experience their family in a much more intense way.
After all, you can stop for a little bit of your day, play with your kids, and then work while they are sleeping. Who makes your time is you.
Therefore, there is no way to have a right answer saying whether working from home brings freedom or makes us even more lonely.
The truth is that it all depends on you and the moment you are living in your life. What I see, however, is that there are those who still prefer to reconcile the two.
Hybrid work as an option
To escape loneliness and even more freedom, an alternative that many are adopting is hybrid work. After all, it allows you to work some days at home and other days at the office.
I find this model very interesting, because there are days when you want to stay at home, do some alternative schedules and enjoy the family.
And there are days when you want to go to the company, either to attend a face-to-face meeting or even to see co-workers.
Anyway, it’s important that you choose the best way to work. The one in which you feel good and that will certainly bring much greater well-being to your life and more results for the company. Do you agree?
