From waiter to entrepreneur: How did I become the founder of SEDA?

-

In 2008, the streets of Dublin were full of lively people, pubs echoing with live music, and a young Brazilian searching for his place under the sun in foreign lands.

It was me, with a dream to study, a fierce desire to succeed, and a tray in hand, serving tables as a waiter. That year, Ireland was fertile ground for young dreamers hungry for opportunities. But it was also a challenging place.

The climate was different from what I was used to in Brazil, the language wasn’t my mother tongue, and I always missed home. But I had a vision: I wanted more than just to live in the present. I wanted to create a legacy.

Cold nights in Dublin

The cold nights in Dublin were offset by warm interactions with customers. Each with their own story, each on their own journey.

Many were international students, just like me, who came to Ireland in search of quality education and an international experience. And it was in that environment, listening to the stories and challenges of the students, that the idea for SEDA College was born.

In 2009, with the money I had saved and the experience gained from interacting with international students, I decided to invest in education.

I noticed there was a gap in the market: an institution that truly understood the needs of foreign students, offering not only quality lessons but also a full exchange experience.

The beginning of a dream

Founding SEDA wasn’t easy. As with any business, there were moments of doubt, uncertainty, and financial challenges. But what kept me steadfast was my passion for education and the desire to make a difference in students’ lives.

Each day, SEDA grew. We listened to student feedback, adapted our methodology, and invested in qualified professionals. The waiter who once served beers in Irish pubs was now serving knowledge and opportunities.

SEDA College became more than just an English school; it became a community, a home away from home for students from all over the world.

Today, looking back, I realize that it was the combination of my experience as a waiter, listening to and understanding people’s needs, along with my intrinsic desire to make a difference, that led me to found SEDA.

I firmly believe that every challenge we face in life is a disguised opportunity. And for me, serving tables was my disguised opportunity.

Believe in your dreams

To everyone reading my story, I want to leave a message: believe in yourself, embrace challenges, and never stop dreaming. Sometimes, the journey can be tough, but it’s the journey that shapes us, molds us, and prepares us for great moments.

If I, a mere waiter, could found one of the most renowned English schools in Ireland, you too can turn your dreams into reality.

Life is made of choices, and I chose to believe. I chose to be more than just a waiter. I chose to be an entrepreneur, an educator, and above all, a dreamer. And you, what do you choose to be?
