I always had a dream of living abroad. But what I didn’t know is how an exchange program could change my life.
As you all know, I came from a humble family, worked hard in life, studied, graduated and decided to leave a promising career in Brazil to venture abroad.
At first my idea was not to live here permanently. What I wanted was to perfect my English and return to Brazil. I knew that speaking fluent English I could embrace better opportunities in the country.
But suddenly, everything changed.
I built my life abroad
When I came to Ireland I faced a lot of difficulties at the beginning. The first was with the language because I hardly spoke any English.
Then it was getting a job. My first job in Ireland was as a waiter. But it was OK, I was happy to be here.
However, what I didn’t know was what was to come. After a while here I went to do a course in Barcelona, and there I realised that my life would be here in Ireland.
That’s where I decided I was going to be an entrepreneur. That’s when I had the idea to start an English language school and help people who wanted to live here.
The beginning is always the hardest
As soon as I started with the school it wasn’t easy. But then the doors opened and before I knew it I had already put down roots here in Ireland.
To be honest, I didn’t imagine that I would achieve everything I have today in another country. As I said, my initial idea was to go back to Brazil. But things happened.
That’s why I like to say that the exchange changed my life. After all, would I have the same opportunities in Brazil that I have here?
We all know how much more bureaucratic it is to start a business in Brazil. Besides, the rate of companies that close is much higher.
As I said, my initial idea was not to start a business. I wanted to go back to Brazil and get a good profession, have stability and so on.
Anyway, having lived abroad for a while would have been beneficial for my professional career. That’s why I see how important it is to do an exchange program.
If it changed my life, it can change yours.
If you asked me for advice, what I would tell you is this: go on an exchange. If it changed my life, it will certainly change yours.
Even if you don’t intend to live abroad for the rest of your life, you can be sure that this time abroad will help you a lot when you return to Brazil.
You will be a more secure person, you will have a broader vision of life, and consequently you will be able to occupy the best positions in the market.
So, if the exchange program changed my life, it will also change yours. Be sure of it!
