Jiu-Jitsu is not just a martial art; it is a philosophy of life. And I realized that the lessons learned on the mat have a profound impact and transcend the boundaries of the dojo.
Currently, I practice the sport every day, and I saw that my life was really transformed by it. That’s why I decided to write this article talking about the 4 teachings that Jiu-Jitsu brought into my life. Check out!
1. Resilience in the face of difficulties
In many training sessions, we find ourselves in uncomfortable positions, sometimes even suffocating. However, Jiu-Jitsu teaches us to stay calm, breathe and think of a way out.
As in the business world, where we face constant challenges and pressure, this resilience cultivated on the mat teaches us to face adversity with determination and focus.
2. The importance of strategy and planning
In Jiu-Jitsu, brute force rarely defeats technique and strategy. Every move is calculated, every technique has a purpose. In a fight, we need to think steps ahead, anticipating the opponent’s actions and planning our reaction.
Likewise, in the corporate world, anticipation, planning and strategy are key to success. It’s not about who works the hardest, it’s about who works the smartest.
3. The value of respect and humility
One of the first things we learn in Jiu-Jitsu is respect. We respect our master, our training partners and even our opponents. We learned that every person on the mat has something to teach, regardless of belt or rank.
In my role as CEO, that lesson translates to actively listening to my peers, valuing feedback, and recognizing that there is always something new to learn. Humility is a virtue that allows us to grow and evolve, both personally and professionally.
4. Persistence leads to mastery
In Jiu-Jitsu, progression is not linear. There are times of rapid growth and times of stagnation. But persistence, constant practice, and unwavering dedication lead to mastery. In business life, the journey is also full of ups and downs.
However, staying true to the vision, being persistent and having a passion for what you do will inevitably lead to the desired success.
As you can see, constantly practicing Jiu-Jitsu not only strengthened my body, but also shaped my character and worldview. The intersection between teaching on the mat and business life is deep and undeniable.
Both require dedication, strategy, humility and, above all, passion. And so, with every training session and every business decision, I remember the lessons learned and am grateful for every experience Jiu-Jitsu has given me.
